Richard Würpel

Richard Würpel (born February 10, 1903 in Barby , † May 2, 1987 in Andernach ) was a German painter and art teacher .

Life

Würpel went to the seminary training school from 1909 to 1917, then he attended the teachers' seminar in Barby. He studied painting at the Berlin School of Art 1924-26 and art history at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . After the examination in the subject of art education, he entered the school service in Barby and a secondary school . He later studied at the State Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade . As a lecturer with a teaching position for art education, he came from 1935 to the college for teacher training in Elbing . In those years he took part in art exhibitions in Elbing and the Free City of Danzig as well as in Königsberg , Breslau and Munich .

During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . The flight and expulsion of Germans from Central and Eastern Europe from 1945 to 1950 brought him to West Germany . In 1955 he received a teaching position for fine arts at the Pedagogical University of the Palatinate in Kaiserslautern. He served as a professor until 1969. On his 80th birthday, the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern organized an exhibition on his life and work.
