The Riedberg is a mountain in the north-western Odenwald, approx. 0.5 km east of Darmstadt . The 166.9 m high mountain in the Darmstadt forest area is partially forested. The Riedberg is part of the Lerchenberg and Kernesbellen nature reserve . The Modau flows north and east of the Riedberg . The B 446 (Gernsheimer Strasse / Beerbacher Strasse) runs south-east of the mountain .

etymology

Old High German hriot , riod , riot ; Middle High German and Early New High German advised with the meaning “Ried, Schilfrohr, Sumpfgras; place overgrown with marsh grass ”. In southern Hesse , Ried also means “moist meadow ground”. Ried is also the name of the wide plain between Bergstrasse and the Rhine . These field names refer to "swamp and water places with various types of swamp vegetation". It is also possible to derive some of the field names from Middle High German advised “Ausereuteter Grund, Rodeland; small settlement on a clearing site “In terms of language, an exact delimitation is not possible. The stem vowel was diphthongized from / i / to / ɛɪ /; rydecht - an adjective formed with -ich (t) suffix - means "overgrown with reed".
