Riesel is a district of the city of Brakel and thus belongs to the Höxter district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Around 577 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2015) live in this district.

geography

The village is located in the valley of the Aa river, not far from the confluence of this small body of water with the somewhat larger Nethe . The city of Brakel is about 2 km in a north-east direction. The neighboring district of Rheder is 2 km away in a southerly direction. In the west is the district of Istrup .

In the middle of the village is the small parish church of St. Georg. When there is heavy rainfall, the water from the Aa flowing past can press into the town center and then flow unhindered into residential buildings, farm buildings and even into the church. The lowest point of the village is the Aa river bed near the town of Brakel at around 130 meters above sea level.

history

On January 1, 1970 Riesel was incorporated into the city of Brakel.

Club life

There is a very lively club life in Riesel. The sports club FC Aa-Nethetal (Riesel, Istrup, Rheder), the TV Riesel (table tennis, women's and men's gymnastics, Taekwondo) as well as the Catholic rural youth movement , the shooting club, the singing club and the hiking club should be emphasized here .
