history
At the point where Hazerswoude-Rijndijk is now, a Roman settlement is said to have been around 50 AD. In 1281 the area of the municipality belonged to a Mr. Dirk (Dietrich) van Teylingen, a member of an important noble family in South Holland. He spent land in so-called "copen" (see for an explanation of this term: Boskoop (Netherlands) ), and the bog was reclaimed, later peat was cut and sold to the neighboring city of Leiden. Thus, the country went under, but the lakes in this way were again in the 17th and 18th centuries eingepoldert , and again was fertile farmland. In the late Middle Ages, Koudekerk was an "ambacht", a glory that had its own jurisdiction under Mr. Van Poelgeest , including blood jurisdiction .
The municipalities Alphen aan den Rijn , Boskoop and Rijnwoude merged on January 1, 2014. The new municipality has around 106,000 inhabitants and takes over the existing name Alphen aan den Rijn .
