Riki Morgan Ellison (born August 15, 1960 in Christchurch , New Zealand ) is a former American football player in the position of linebacker . He played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). In his ten years as a professional, he won the Super Bowl three times . He was the first New Zealand player in the NFL.

Early years

Ellison attended high school in Tucson , Arizona . He later attended the University of Southern California . With the college football team, he won the national championship in 1978.

NFL

San Francisco 49ers

Ellison was selected in the fifth round of the 1983 NFL draft in 117th place by the San Francisco 49ers . He stayed here for seven years and won three Super Bowl titles with the 49ers . In his final season for the 49ers, he broke his arm and was placed on the Injured Reserve List .

Oakland Raiders

For the 1990 season , Ellison signed a contract with the Los Angeles Raiders . He stayed here for three years before ending his career.

Personal

Ellison is of Maori descent. His son Rhett Ellison currently plays as a tight end for the New York Giants in the NFL. Other family members played or are currently playing higher class super rugby .
