Rina ( Hebrew : רִינָה, Hindi / Marathi : रीना, Japanese : 莉奈, 里 菜, 莉 菜, 里 奈 and others) is a female given name .

Origin and meaning

The name means joy / singing in Hebrew . One variant is rinat .

In Dutch and Italian it is a short form of Caterina , Catharina or other names ending in rina . Other variants are Marinella (Italian) and Cato, Ina, Katinka , Rini, Riny , Tina and Tineke (Dutch).

The Indian name probably comes from the Sanskrit element रीण (rina), which means melted . One variant is Reena .

The Japanese name comes from the Japanese 莉 (ri) for white jasmine or 里 (ri) for village , combined with 奈 (na), a phonetic symbol, or 菜 (na) for vegetables / greens . Other Kanji combinations are possible.
