Rinaldo Veri

Rinaldo Veri (born April 22, 1952 in Mumbai , India ) is a retired Italian admiral . From March 2011 to January 2013 he commanded the Allied Maritime Command Naples of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples and thus the naval forces that are enforcing an arms embargo against Libya as part of Operation Unified Protector . Veri was most recently head of the command academy of the Italian armed forces .

Life

Veri attended the Campion School in what was then Bombay , where his father had emigrated. In 1975 he completed officer training at the Naval Academy in Livorno and then completed pilot training in the USA . From 1978 to 1982 he flew helicopters of the Italian Navy from land bases and warships . In July 1982 he took over his first command at sea, the speedboat Lampo (P 491), and the following year the corvette Aquila (F 542). In 1984 he returned to Livorno as a trainer at the Naval Academy. From 1986 to 1990 he worked in the Ministry of Defense in Rome , first in the armaments sector, then with the General Staff of the Armed Forces. In the following three years he commanded the corvettes Pietro De Cristofaro (F 540) and Salvatore Todaro (F 541), as well as the frigate Espero (F 576) . Then Veri served again in the Ministry of Defense until 1997, first with the Admiralty and then again with the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Promoted to sea captain at the end of 1995 , he took over the destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne (D 560) from 1997 to 1999 . This was followed by a course at the Armed Forces Command Academy in Rome until June 2000.

From 2000 to 2002 Veri was head of a planning subdivision of the Admiralty's staff. During this employment he was promoted to Flotilla Admiral ( Rear Admiral Lower Half ) on July 1, 2001 , in the spring of 2002 because of the ongoing Operation Enduring Freedom as Italian Senior National Representative to the United States Central Command in Tampa , Florida . In September 2002, Veri became Commander Italian Naval Task Group . As such, in the first half of 2003 he also headed the European Maritime Group (CTF 150), which operated in the Indian Ocean as part of Enduring Freedom . From March 2004 to July 2007, he led the planning department of the Naval Staff, in July 2005 as a Rear Admiral ( Rear Admiral Upper Half ). From July 2007 to February 2009 he commanded the ocean-going fleet (COMFORAL and COMITMARFOR). He then became chief of staff in the operational command in Rome-Centocelle until June 2010 and then as vice admiral, deputy commander of the operational command. On March 10, 2011, Veri took over the naval command of NATO on the island of Nisida in the Gulf of Naples . From January 11, 2013 to June 19, 2015, he headed the Armed Forces Leadership Academy in Rome.
