The bark sprinklers ( Vuilleminia ) are a genus from the family of the royal bark mushroom relatives (Corticiaceae). The most common and best-known representative and type is the common bark sprinkler ( Vuilleminia comedens ). The genus is named after the French mycologist Paul Vuillemin .
features
The bark sprinklers form fruit bodies with a smooth surface and a somewhat gelatinous consistency that grow resupinate on the substrate. The hyphae structure is monomitic. The hyphae themselves are hyaline and have septa with buckles . The hyphidia are unbranched. The basidia are very long and club-shaped. The spores are ellipsoid to fusiform or allantoid, hyaline and thin-walled.
ecology
The bark sprinklers live as saprobionts on weak branches and twigs of deciduous trees. They grow under the bark and peel it off. Later the populated parts of the host die off and fall to the ground.
