location
The mountain, a moraine of the Rhine glacier , located in the Yellow Hartwald, east of the provincial road 288 , its highest point about two kilometers northeast of the Wilhelmsdorfer center. In terms of its natural surroundings , the "Rinkenburg" belongs to the Upper Swabian hill country within the pre-alpine hills and moorland .
Protected areas
As part of the “ Pfrunger Ried - Rinkenburg ” landscape protection area , the Rinkenburg is part of a large, typically Upper Swabian, younger, hilly meltwater landscape with marshy lowlands.
Ringgenburg
On the north side of the mountain, at an altitude of 718.1 m above sea level. NHN is the Ringgenburg , an abandoned hilltop castle , which was built by the Lords of Ringgenburg as their ancestral seat around the year 1200, probably on the site of a Celtic refugee castle .
Hiking trails
Alongside some of the hiking trails signposted by the community of Wilhelmsdorf , the “ Swabian Alb Oberschwaben Weg ” (HW 7), managed by the Swabian Alb Association , runs over the Rinkenburg ; it leads from Lorch im Remstal via Göppingen and Bad Saulgau to Friedrichshafen .
