Knight rust

Ritter Rost is the title of a series of children's books by Jörg Hilbert (text and illustration) and Felix Janosa (music). The volumes each contain the text of the story in prose , the illustrations drawn as comics and the complete sheet music and lyrics of all songs and songs. The narrator Fritz Stavenhagen leads through the plot and, with a wink, introduces the characters in their lovable peculiarities. There are also some animated videos in which well-known songs from the Ritter-Rost CDs are drawn, for example: “Paolo with the pizza flash”, “This is how the grandma cooks from Ritter Rost” and “Blechdance”. These cartoons run irregularly in the program with the mouse . Since 2013 there has been an animated film with the characters from the series under the title Ritter Rost - Eisenhart und voll dented and in 2017 a second part appeared with Ritter Rost 2 - Das Schrottkomplott .

Emergence

Jörg Hilbert wrote and drew stories about the rust knight at the beginning of his studies and then tucked them away in a drawer. He himself says about it:

“One day, a dragon named Koks is created on a piece of paper. Jörg Hilbert: 'For him I needed a knight to get in his way, and he should be as crazy as possible and eat paper clip muesli for breakfast.' "

Years later, when the composer Felix Janosa asked him if he had material for a children's musical, he showed him the manuscript and he immediately began enthusiastically to write songs for it.

The first book was published by the small ConBrio Verlag , later by Terzio Verlag .

Jörg Hilbert himself provides the best background information on his website joerghilbert.de.

main characters

Knight rust

Peugeot 404

Jörg Hilbert's model for the Ritter Rost was an old Peugeot 404 station wagon and the cash register of the bakery in his hometown.

Ritter Rost, played and sung by Björn Dömkes, is a very martial knight who is unfortunately far too scared and prefers to lock himself in the toilet with the newspaper or crawl into bed with his teddy bear. In one song, Ritter Rost describes himself as follows:

My father made me
from the most beautiful scrap in the world.
Instead of cola or canned beer,
I drink machine grease.
The most beautiful, strongest, smartest man
in the south and west and east.
Yes, that's how I am
the rustling knight.

He considers himself the strongest, bravest and smartest knight in the world, but in reality he is weak and cowardly.

His food consists of nails and paper clips, and his horse is called the fire chair. He lives with the damsel Bö and her talking hat and the dragon Koks "where the forest is darkest and where not even the robbers dare to go."

Damsel Bö

Jörg Hilbert's model for the red hair of the emancipated damsel Bö was the red hair of his wife Susanne. It got its name Bö because it rushes through the Iron Castle like a whirlwind.

Burgfräulein Bö, played and sung by Patricia Prawit , is the real “man in the house”. She even bravely reaches on horseback and lance to punish the cheeky dragon who burned the circus director's underwear on the clothesline. Your Sorting Hat is constantly making nonsense and inappropriate comments.

Bö describes himself in a song as follows:

“… I am the brave castle woman Bö. / I have strength, I have the courage / I can do what the knight can, only three times as well ... "

Dragon coke

Koks, the dragon, has to work through the “Annoying List of Daily Duties” as punishment for setting a big top on fire; this includes brushing your teeth, tidying your room and going to bed early. It gets its name from the burning coal, the coke . Koks is spoken and sung by co-author Felix Janosa .

The dragon Koks is - according to Hilbert - the most popular figure among children because he likes to eat ice cream and avoid cleaning up or turn the castle upside down. In a song with the telling title “You can never do what you want”, Koks says of himself: “My constellation is Sagittarius and not Aquarius. / I'm a wild dragon that can spit fire, / but if I want to spit once, they'll start mucking right away ... "

King lead foot

King Bleifuss the Bent is extremely impressed by his own cleverness (“Because I'm such a clever head.”) And lets his court clerk Ratzefummel write down all his “flashes of inspiration” immediately. It is sung by Dieter Brink.

Horse fire chair

Loyal companion of Ritter Rost.

Count Zitzewitz

Inventor of all consumer goods such as SUVs (super and daring), evergreen garden ...

And many, many more such as Graf Knoblauch, Prinz Eisenerz, Zicklinde Embarrassing-Clean, Po-Biter, Ventriloquist ...

Songs

The numerous songs, which contributed greatly to the knight's popularity, contain quite a few allusions that can only be understood by adults. In the song "O Bellabimba Schnuckelschnäuzchen", the solo entertainer Roxy Ascheimer satirized folk music : "Nobody hears such beautiful songs today, the youth only want rap and punk." , Thank God!"

In the song "Paolo with the Pizza-Blitz", Paolo sings with an Italian accent: "The pizza tastes so good, eats much better than in stupid Pizza-Bud!" So it is in the written version. On the CD, however, you can hear "much better than in stupid Pizza-Hut", an allusion to the American snack chain Pizza Hut .
