The Knights of the Round Table (Original title: Knights of the Round Table ) is a US-American - British feature film from 1953 . The film was based loosely on Le Morte d'Arthur by Thomas Malory .
action
The film tells the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table . Arthur created an empire of good around his Camelot court . The king is popular and trusted by his subjects. His closest confidante is the knight Lancelot . However, Lancelot falls in love with Guinevere, the future queen and wife of King Arthur . When the evil Mordred finds out, who also lays claim to the throne as the husband of Arthur's half-sister Morgan le Fay , he uses this knowledge to destroy Camelot and the kingdom of King Arthur. The battle for the throne of Britain begins and Lancelot helps Arthur save the empire, with Arthur and Mordred losing their lives.
background
The knight film - MGM's first production using the then revolutionary Cinemascope wide-screen method - is the second part of the knight trilogy by the trio of Pandro S. Bermann (production), Richard Thorpe (director) and Robert Taylor (male lead). It illuminates the beginnings of chivalry, while the predecessor Ivanhoe - The Black Knight (1952) dealt with the climax and the successor Love, Death and the Devil (1955) with the end of this medieval era. All three films were shot in the MGM-British Studios in Borehamwood near London, and the gigantic castle backdrop that had been set up for Ivanhoe was used again for the Knights of the Round Table .
Reviews
“Specialists in medieval literature will of course tear their hair out about this lavish, prominent Hollywood film adaptation of the Arthurian legend. Apart from that, the film is a technically brilliant piece of entertainment cinema, which provides amusement with a lot of knight romance, nobility and the tumult of battle and has a lot to offer visually. "

The film received an invitation to compete at the 1954 Cannes International Film Festival . In 1954 he was nominated for an Oscar in the categories of Best Production Design and Best Sound.
