River Junction AVA (recognized since June 1, 2001) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area extends to the administrative areas of San Joaquin County and Stanislaus County .

The area northwest of the city of Modesto is near the confluence of the San Joaquin River and Stanislaus River , a fact that gave the area its name. The establishment of the protected designation of origin was an initiative of the winery McManis Family Vineyards (halfway between Modesto and Stockton area) back, which remained the only industrial estate in the region to this day. A unique selling point of the wine-growing region in comparison to other Californian AVAs of the Californian long valley is the somewhat cooler climate and a high proportion of fine sandy loam in the soil of the alluvial land. The cooler climate favors the cultivation of white grape varieties . Currently 90 percent of the areas are planted with the Chardonnay grape variety.
