Rivière Waswanipi is a river in the western part of the Canadian province of Québec .
It is created by the confluence of the two rivers Rivière Opawica and Rivière Chibougamau about 80 km southwest of the city of Chapais and 115 km southwest of Chibougamau . From there it flows 210 km in a westerly direction to Lac Matagami . The lakes Lac Waswanipi , Lac au Goéland and Lac Olga are on its route .
The river is navigable by canoe . A bridge leads over the Rivière Waswanipi along the Route de la Baie James .
