Robbie Weiss (born December 1, 1966 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a retired American tennis player .

Career

Weiss first appeared in the Junior Championships of the French Open in 1983 and reached the round of 16 there in singles. The following year he was able to advance there to the quarterfinals and win the Wimbledon junior tournament alongside Ricky Brown ; they defeated Mark Kratzmann and Jonas Svensson in three sets in the final .

Weiss studied from 1985 to 1988 at Pepperdine University , for which he won the first National Collegiate Athletic Association title in its history in 1988. He was chosen twice for the All-American selection.

In 1988 he became a professional tennis player. The following year he won his only double title on the ATP Challenger Tour in Salou . In 1990 he celebrated his only title on the ATP World Tour when he defeated Jaime Yzaga in the São Paulo final. By 1995 he also won three individual titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. He reached his highest scores in the tennis world rankings in 1990 with position 85 in singles and in 1989 with position 271 in doubles.

His best result in a Grand Slam tournament in singles he achieved at the Australian Open and the US Open , when he reached the second round there. In doubles he was never able to qualify for a main field.
