Robert Atwell

Robert Ronald Atwell (born August 3, 1954 in Ilford, Essex ) is a former Anglican Bishop of Stockport . and since January 2014 Bishop of Exeter .

In preparation for the priesthood, he studied theology at St John's College of the University of Durham and the Westcott House Theological College of the University of Cambridge . In 1979 he was a priest of the Church of England ordained . His first service was as a curator at John Keble Church , Mill Hill in the London Borough of Barnet , then from 1981 to 1987 as chaplain of Trinity College (Cambridge) . He then spent ten years as a monk in the Anglican Order of Benedictines in Burford Priory in Burford, Oxfordshire, and most recently, before being appointed bishop, was Vicar at St Mary’s Church in Primrose Hill, London . There he also served as director of the Edmonton Aera Priests Training Facility in the Diocese of London .

His episcopal ordination as suffragan Bishop of Stockport took place on June 24, 2008 at the seat of the ecclesiastical province of York , York Minster and his inauguration took place at the seat of his parent diocese of Chester on June 27, 2008 in Chester Cathedral .

On January 21, 2014, his appointment as Bishop of the Diocese of Exeter was announced. His inauguration took place on July 5, 2014 in St. Peter's Cathedral (Exeter) .
