Robert Berić (born June 17, 1991 in Krško ) is a Slovenian football player . The striker currently plays for Chicago Fire and has been a Slovenian international since 2012 .

Club career

Berić began his career in his hometown at NK Krško . After a few years in youth and his debut in the first team, he moved to Interblock Ljubljana , for whom he made his debut in the top division, the Prva Liga , in October 2008 . He scored his first goal in a 3-0 win against NK Primorje in December 2008. After two years, 34 games and twelve goals, Beric moved from the capital to the Slovenian series champions NK Maribor . There he made 90 games and 24 goals in the Slovenian league in three years and was champion in all three years. Internationally, Berić drew attention to himself with goals against Lazio Rome and Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League .

In June 2013 Berić moved to Austria for SK Sturm Graz . His trainer at NK Maribor, Darko Milanič , had gone to Graz that summer; With the support of the billionaire Frank Stronach , who took over the transfer fee of around one million euros, Berić was committed, which was viewed rather ambiguously in view of Stronach's candidacy in the national elections in Austria in 2013 . After a year, the striker was handed over to league rivals SK Rapid Wien , where he quickly integrated into the team and quickly had a regular position in attack.

At the end of the transfer period in summer 2015, Berić moved from Rapid Vienna to the French record champions AS Saint-Étienne for around 5.5 million euros. For the 2017/18 season he was loaned to the Belgian record champions RSC Anderlecht. During the winter break, however, he returned to Saint-Étienne.

In January 2020, Berić moved to Chicago Fire in the United States with a two-year contract with an option to extend for another year .

National team

After numerous appearances in various youth national teams, Berić made his debut against Macedonia for the Slovenian national soccer team in November 2012 .
