Darko Milanič (born December 18, 1967 in Izola , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Slovenian football player and today's coach .
Career
Darko Milanič started his career at NK Izola in Slovenia. Then he played in Belgrade for Partizan . In 1993 the defender moved to Austria for SK Sturm. Like some of his former colleagues, Milanič had to leave Sturm in 2000 after the most successful Storm season in history. He started his coaching education and became a coach at NK Izola. He later coached the Slovenian U-19 team and the Slovenian youth before coming back to Sturm in 2006 as an assistant coach under Franco Foda .
At the beginning of 2007 he received the offer to become the Slovenian team manager, which he refused. In the summer of 2007 he asked Sturm to terminate his contract for personal reasons and became the head coach of the Slovenian club ND Gorica . From 2008 to June 2013 he was a coach at NK Maribor , the most successful Slovenian football club. On June 4, 2013 he was presented as the new trainer of SK Sturm Graz, replacing the hapless interim trainer Markus Schopp . On September 21, 2014 SK Sturm Graz and Darko Milanič announced the end of their cooperation and the change of coach to English second division Leeds United . After a month in which he was without a win with Leeds, Milanič was released again. Since March 2, 2016 he has been coaching the Slovenian football club NK Maribor for the second time.
