Žan Kolmanič (born March 3, 2000 ) is a Slovenian football player on the position of a defender . He has been registered with NK Maribor since 2013 and made his debut in 2017 in its men's team with play in the highest Slovenian football league .

Club career

Žan Kolmanič began his club career as a football player in October 2005 when he was registered with the newly founded ND Mura 05 . There he went through all divisions and was most recently employed as a 12- or 13-year-old as a regular for his U-15 selection. Due to the financial difficulties and the subsequent bankruptcy of the club after the end of the 2012/13 season, Kolmanič was forced to look for a new club. He was used from the start of the season in August until the winter break at the end of November 2013 for the U-15 team of the lower-class NK Veržej . In his 17 championship games, which he completed for his U-15 team, he acted extremely dangerous and scored 16 goals.

From the start of spring he was then used for another club. At the Slovenian top club NK Maribor , he then started as a regular in their U-15 junior team. In eight missions in the remainder of the 2013/14 season, he scored four goals and finished the season with NK Maribor in first place in the table. In the following season 2014/15 his goal danger did not decrease. In 23 championship games for the U-15 team, he scored 18 goals; Furthermore, he was able to gain first experience in the 1st Slovenska Kadetska Liga , the Slovenian U-17 league. Here he came under the former Slovenian international Muamer Vugdalić in four league games for short appearances. At the end of the season he was able to celebrate the championship title with both the U-15 and U-17 teams.

From the 2015/16 season he was trained to the position of a defender and was used exclusively for the U-17 junior team. For this he completed 26 of the 30 possible league games, scored one goal and finished the championship with the team in third place in the table behind the youth of NK Krško (second) and NK Domžale (first). In the following 2016/17 season, the 16- and 17-year-olds made their first appearances in the 1st Slovenska Mladinska League , the Slovenian U-19 junior league. Under Muamer Vugdalić, meanwhile coach of the U-19 team, he was used in 21 of the 26 championship games, remained goalless himself and ended the season in sixth place in the sometimes quite dense table.

His professional debut finally took place in the 2017/18 season , in which, however, he continued to appear primarily in the junior team. On July 19, 2017, he sat on the professional bench for the first time in the second leg of the second qualifying round for the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League . In the sixth championship round, a 3-2 home win over NK Krško, Kolmanič made his debut in the Slovenska Nogometna Liga on August 19, 2017 , when coach Darko Milanič used him as a left-back from the start and for the full game. A little later, Milanič also used him on September 5, 2017 in the quarter-final of the Slovenian Football Cup 2017/18 over the full playing time against NK Tabor Sežana . He then spent most of the rest of the season in the junior team and did not even sit unused on the professional bench. With the juniors, he also took part in the group stage of the 2017/18 UEFA Youth League , where he was eliminated from the current tournament with NK Maribor as the last in Group E. In late February, late April and late May, he was brought from the U-19 team of the club in the first team and completed in these months respectively a game over the full duration of the professionals who finish the season behind the points same NK Olimpija Ljubljana the second Occupied table position. In 2017/18 he also made 18 appearances and five goals in the 1st Slovenska Mladinska League , as well as an appearance in the Junior Cup, where he scored in a double.

As runner-up in the league, NK Maribor started the new season in the first qualifying round of the 2018/19 Europa League ; Milanič did not consider the 18-year-old in any of the six qualifying games of his team, for which Round 3 against the Glasgow Rangers was the last stop. However, during this time he came to a 90-minute assignment as a right-back in the second championship round and completed another league game at the end of September. Otherwise he belonged exclusively to the club's own youth, for whom he was a regular player, especially at that time. After he had been on the substitute bench for a short time before the winter break, he was part of the team in the defense of the Maribor from the spring. By the end of the 2018/19 season , he had made 14 championship appearances, with almost all of them playing for the full duration of the game. In the final ranking he was able to prevail this time with his team; NK Maribor finished the season in first place with nine points ahead of the closest pursuer, the defending champion Olimpija Ljubljana. He also made it to the Slovenian Football Cup 2018/19 , in which his team made it to the final and lost to Olimpija Ljubljana 2-1. Especially in the autumn he was still used for the U-19 team of the club, where he came to 13 appearances in the 1st SML, as well as an appearance in the junior cup. He was also used in his team's two games in the 2018/19 UEFA Youth League .

In the following season 2019/20 only played the first game of the season, a 1: 2 home defeat against NK Triglav Kranj , over the full 90 minutes and was then no longer considered by his coach Darko Milanič (as of April 26, 2020). His existing contract with the Maribor club expires on June 30, 2020.

National team career

Kolmanič gained his first experience in a Slovenian youth team when he first appeared in the U-16 team in his home country in May 2015 . After two appearances in May, he also played two friendly matches for the Slovenian U-16 national team in October and November 2015. In September 2016, he made his debut in the U-17 national team of Slovenia and was used by U-17 national coach Agron Šalja in two friendly matches against his colleagues from Macedonia . A month later, he took part in qualifying for the U-17 European Football Championship 2017 with his home country and played all three games of the first qualifying round. After four more friendly international matches between the beginning of February and the beginning of March 2017, the defender was also used in the three group matches of the elite round of qualifying for the U-17 European Championship. With the Slovenians he failed to qualify for the final round, which will take place in Croatia in May 2017 .

In June and August 2017, the Slovenian U-18 juniors played an international match and made his debut in the U-19 team of his home country just a few days after his last U-18 international match . After three friendlies in August 2017, he also played three games in the first qualifying round for the 2018 U-19 European Football Championship in October 2017 . As third in Group 4, however, the team already failed to make it into the elite round of qualification. After that, it took almost six months before Kolmanič became active again on an international level for the Slovenian junior national teams. In March and April 2018, he played three friendly matches for the Slovenian U-18 national team and was back for the said national team in his home country eleven months after his last U-19 international match. After two friendly international matches in September 2018, the defensive player took part in qualifying for the U-19 European Championship in 2019 , when he was used in all three group matches in the first qualifying round. In January 2019, he played a friendly against his colleagues from Turkey and then played the elite round of European Championship qualification with the Slovenes in March 2019. As third in Group 4, however, the Slovenes did not make it to the final round in Armenia in July 2019 . In the same year he was drafted into the Slovenian U-21 national squad trained by Primož Gliha .
