Robert Iain Colin "Bob" Billingham (born December 10, 1957 in London , United Kingdom , † March 30, 2014 in Grass Valley , USA ) was an American sailor .

successes

Robert Billingham took part in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul alongside William Baylis as a crew member on the US boat of the Soling class of skipper John Kostecki . Despite three wins in seven races and only 14 points overall, they had to admit defeat to the German boat led by Jochen Schümann , which finished the regatta with 11.7 points. Billingham, Baylis and Kostecki finished second ahead of the Danish boat for Jesper Bank and secured the silver medal. Together with Kostecki and Baylis, Billingham won four medals at world championships : in 1985 they were first third in Sarnia , before they won the title in La Trinité-sur-Mer in 1986 and in Melbourne in 1988 . In between they won silver in 1987 in Kiel .

Billingham sailed several times at the America's Cup and was also active in the administrative part of the competition. In 1992 at the 28th America's Cup he was part of the victorious US crew of America 3 . He died at the end of March 2014 after suffering from cancer for a long time.
