Robert Eggers (* 1983 in Lee , New Hampshire ) is an American film director , screenwriter and production designer .
Life
Originally from New Hampshire , Eggers began his career at the theater in New York City , where he directed experimental plays and was also responsible for the production design.
From 2007 he directed his first short films. In 2015 he made his feature film debut with the horror film The Witch . At the 2015 Sundance Film Festival , Eggers was awarded the Director's Prize for Best Feature Film for The Witch . The film was then released in US theaters by A24 . He presented his film The Lighthouse with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson in the leading roles in May 2019 at the Cannes International Film Festival , where it was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize in the secondary series Quinzaine des réalisateurs . At the end of June 2020, Robert Eggers became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
Robert Eggers lives in Brooklyn .
