Robert Graham (sculptor)

Lionel Robert Graham (born August 19, 1938 in Mexico City , † December 27, 2008 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American sculptor .

Graham studied from 1961 to 1963 at the state-owned San José State University and at the private San Francisco Art Institute in California, where he graduated in 1964. In 1972 he exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dallas . On the occasion of the XXIII. For the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , Robert Graham designed the relief on the almost ten meter high bronze doors of the Memorial Coliseum . These symbolize the forty cultures, including those of the indigenous people of Los Angeles. Robert Graham was married to actress Anjelica Huston (* 1951) from 1992 until his death ; the couple lived in Venice . The marriage remained childless.

On December 6, 2006, Graham was inducted into the California Hall of Fame by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for his work . Graham died in December 2008 at the age of 70 after a long illness.
