Robert H. Reichardt

Robert H. Reichardt (born May 2, 1927 in Basel ; † August 22, 1994 in Vienna ) was a Swiss sociologist whose main fields of work were technology, culture and music.

Reichardt studied at the University of Basel with Edgar Salin ( economics ), Karl Jaspers ( philosophy ) and Heinrich Popitz ( sociology ) and financed his studies as a working student . In 1960, he was there with the work of the social science context of a Soziographie of Austrian musical life to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1960 to 1961 he was a Research Associate at Princeton University , USA . From 1964 to 1966 he was head of the sociological department of the Institute for Advanced Studies and Scientific Research in Vienna . In 1965 he completed his habilitation with the study The record as a cultural and economic phenomenon at the University of Basel for sociology.

From 1966 he was a full professor of sociology at the University of Vienna and since 1977 he was part-time director of the Institute for Socio-Economic Development Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

His research focus was on sociological theory and methods, on the sociology of consumption , technology , culture and music . Reichhardt composed and made music himself.

Reichardt was buried at the Döblinger Friedhof in Vienna.
