Robert Hassencamp

Robert Hassencamp (born August 24, 1848 in Weyhers , † January 8, 1902 in Düren ) was a German educator and scientific author.

Life

Robert Hassencamp was born as the son of the pharmacist and paleontologist Ernst Conrad Hassencamp in the Rhön community of Weyhers. After graduating from high school in Fulda, he studied classical philology , archeology , geography and history . In 1870 he received his doctorate in philosophy . He then worked as a high school teacher in Marburg , Beuthen , Bromberg , Posen and from 1881 to 1894 in Ostrowo in the province of Posen . In Ostrowo in particular, his efforts were aimed at German-Polish understanding.

In addition, he was active in local politics, a scientific writer and founder of several history societies. His work on the connection between the Latvian and Germanic language tribe was awarded the Prize of the Princely Jablonovsk Society of Sciences in Leipzig in 1876 . In 1891 he received the title of professor.
