Robert "Bob" Murray Hawkes (born October 18, 1880 in Breachwood Green , † September 12, 1945 in Luton ) was an English football player and Olympic gold medalist from 1908.

Athletic career

Hawkes learned to play soccer in local school and youth teams in Luton and henceforth worked as an amateur player. Later in his career he played 349 league games for Luton Town and was present among others in the team, in the Southern League on September 4, 1905, the very first game against Plymouth Argyle in the newly opened stadium at Kenilworth Road completed, the ended scoreless.

Hawkes, who played mostly on the left half position, came on February 16, 1907 as the first player from Luton Town to an international match for the English national team and won 1-0 against Ireland at Goodison Park . He should complete four more games for England on the occasion of a European tour in 1908, with the 4-0 victory on June 13, 1908 against Bohemia at the same time ended his international career. He was able to win all games.

At the Olympic football tournament in London in 1908 , he came with the English amateur national team , which competed as the selection of Great Britain , in all three games, scored two goals in the game against Sweden and ultimately won the gold medal.
