The combination of painterly and graphic elements characterizes his work. While the subject matter of the picture was initially characterized by technical content, his artistic development was soon oriented towards a consistent examination of surface and space, which led him to the dissolution of the picture plane.

From the mid-1980s, Kabas first made small sculptures out of sheet metal, which he derived from the surface. Since the mid-1990s, Kabas has focused on projects in public space, often in the form of colored metal sculptures. The majority of the objects can be found in the province of Lower Austria.

At the same time, Kabas performed art educational tasks. Lectures and lectures took him several times between 1997 and 2003 to the CE-states of Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
