Robert Koelle (born June 2, 1844 in Karlsruhe ; † May 30, 1926 there ) was a German banker and politician .

Life

Born the son of a banker, Koelle studied philosophy at the University of Leipzig and at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg after attending high school in Karlsruhe . During his studies in 1863 he became a member of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity . He finished his studies and worked as a banker in Paris , London and Frankfurt am Main . In 1869 he became a partner in his father's banking business. From 1877 to 1903 he served as Portuguese consul in Karlsruhe, from 1881 also as Swedish - Norwegian and later as Swedish consul. From 1893 to 1897 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly for the National Liberal Party . In 1895 he was awarded the honorary title of ( Grand Ducal Baden ) Commerce Councilor . In the same year he became a district councilor , city ​​councilor , commercial judge and member of the Karlsruhe Chamber of Commerce and a city ​​councilor in Karlsruhe. In 1901 he became President of the Chamber of Commerce. In 1902 he received the honorary title of Privy Councilor of Commerce . From 1903 to 1909 and again from 1913 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly, appointed by the Grand Duke.

Around 1871 Koelle married the opera singer Magdalena Murjahn (1844–1904) who was successful at the Karlsruhe Court Theater and who gave up her career at the wedding.
