Robert Marc Kraft (born February 4, 1955 in Princeton , New Jersey ) is an American jazz pianist , film composer , songwriter , record producer and manager who worked for Fox Music for a long time .

Live and act

Kraft, who graduated from Harvard University with honors in 1976 , began his career as a jazz musician . He played in New York clubs with his band Ivory Coast and released his first album Mood Swing on RSO Records in 1979 . In 1980 he performed at the Newport Jazz Festival in New York's Town Hall . The next album, Ready to Bounce , was initially not released because his label went bankrupt. In 1982 RCA Records released Retroactive , which he recorded with musicians such as Larry Carlton , Bill Reichenbach , Alex Acuña and Paulinho da Costa . He has also composed for Bette Midler , Roberta Flack , Diane Schuur , Los Lobos and The Manhattan Transfer .

From 1989 he worked in the Hollywood studios . That year he co-produced the music for the cartoon The Little Mermaid , including the Oscar-nominated song Under the Sea . The music he produced for The Muppets Christmas Story was nominated for an Oscar; he also composed the song Hudson Hawk , the theme song for the 1991 film of the same name , on whose screenplay he was involved.

For the song Beautiful Maria of My Soul , which he composed with Arne Glimcher for the film Mambo Kings , he was nominated for an Oscar as well as a Golden Globe Award and (like Mambo Caliente ) for a Grammy in 1993. A second nomination for a Golden Globe Award was for the song How Can I Not Love You , which he wrote with George Fenton and Kenneth Edmonds for the film Anna and the King .

As President of Fox Music, he was responsible for the soundtracks of more than 300 films between 1994 and 2012. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and belongs to the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . Since 2013 he has worked as a consultant for the film music department of Warner Brothers . He also appears again as a musician.

Kraft was honored with the City of Hope Spirit of Life Award in 2002 for his services ; In 2010 he received the Spirit of Excellence in the Arts Award from the TJ Martell Foundation.
