Robert Müller (actor, 1879)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Richard Müller , called Nasen-Müller (born March 29, 1879 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † February 1, 1968 in Berlin , Germany ) was an actor of Austrian origin on German stages.

Life

Müller was the son of a theater director of the same name in the 19th century. In 1895 Müller began his career at the theater in Baden-Baden . Other theater stations were Berlin, Nuremberg , Hanover , Breslau , where he worked for 14 years, Weimar , Dresden and, during the First World War, Königsberg . Guest appearances have also taken him abroad, to Switzerland and South America . Since the beginning of the Weimar Republic, Robert Müller, who was mostly called nose miller in the industry because of his powerful olfactory organ , worked in the German capital. There he landed success with roles of humorous guys and weird guys. He was seen in Gerhart Hauptmann's Die Weber and Max Halbes Der Strom, among others . Max Reinhardt gave him the main role of Shylock in his 1921 production of The Merchant of Venice and had him play the worm in Cabal and Love in 1923 and the Archbishop of Reims in George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan two years later . In addition, Müller occasionally took part in small roles in films.

The seizure of power by the National Socialists meant considerable restrictions in the career opportunities of the " half-Jew " Müller. In the next ten years he was barely allowed to perform and during this time he mainly served his boss Heinrich George as a factotum ; for example, he listened to George's role texts. From 1943 onwards, Müller could occasionally appear on stage again. After the end of the war, Müller stayed in West Berlin and was a member of the ensemble of the Hebbel Theater , the Theater am Kurfürstendamm and the Schiller Theater . Müller also worked for the radio stations NWDR and SWF and still worked in old age, since 1960, with small roles in television films.
