Robert Siboldi , full name Robert Dante Siboldi Badiola , (born September 24, 1965 in Canelones ) is a former Uruguayan football player and coach.

Player career

The 1.80 meter tall goalkeeper Siboldi was at the beginning of his career from 1983 to 1988 with the first division club Atlético Peñarol under contract. The Aurinegros was during this period in 1985 and 1986 respectively Uruguayan champions. At the international level, the club also won the Copa Libertadores in 1987 . In the season 1988/98 he played for the Argentine club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata , where he was, however, only a substitute goalkeeper behind regular goalkeeper Moriconi and was not used. From 1989 to 1992 he played 108 games for the team of Atlas Guadalajara from Mexico . In the 1993/94 season, 30 games for CD Cruz Azul followed . In 1994/95 he was also active in Mexico at Puebla FC and played in 36 league matches. From the 1995/96 season to the winter season (Invierno) 1998 he was in the ranks of the Mexican first division club UANL Tigres . The statistics show 78 missions for him during this period. In the 1999 summer season, Toros Neza was his employer. There are 17 games for him. In the Torneo Invierno 1999 he was used ten times at Tigres UNAL. In Clausura 2000, Apertura 2000 and Clausura 2001 he played for the Argentine club Argentinos Juniors . Atlético Junior in 2001 and at Gavilanes in Torneo Invieno 2002 in the Tercera División were his last two career stations as a player.

National team

Siboldi was also a member of the senior national team in his home country . From his debut on June 21, 1992 to his last appearance on September 10, 1997, he completed 34 international matches. At the Copa America 1993 and the Copa America 1997 he took part with Uruguay. During the two tournaments he was the goalkeeper of the Celeste.

Coaching career

At least in May 2009 he worked as coach of the CD Cruz Azul and supervised it in the final second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League 2008/09 . He had previously looked after the club's reserve team from 2007 and later until the end of 2010. At the beginning of January 2011 it was reported that Siboldi would in future fill the position of goalkeeping coach of Club de Fútbol Monterrey instead of Nicolás Navarro . In early December 2011 he left Monterrey and took over the coaching position at Dorados de Sinaloa . At the end of April 2012, club president Antonio Núñez Siboldis announced his resignation as head coach after 14 games. Siboldi's record during this period showed four wins, two draws and eight defeats and a goal difference of 15:23. In July 2014 he became the sports director of the youth department (Fuerzas Básicas) of Santos Laguna in Mexico. In mid-August 2015, after Pedro Caixinha's resignation, he took over as an interim coach for the professionals. After just one game, he was replaced there in the second half of August 2015 by the Spaniard Pako Ayestarán .

In the course of his coaching career, he also worked as a goalkeeping coach at CD Zacatepec , CD Irapuato and Cruz Azul Oaxaca . He was also both owner and coach in the academy of the Siboldi Soccer Club in Monterrey .
