Robert V (Auvergne)

Robert V († 1277 ) was Count of Auvergne since 1247 and also Count of Boulogne from 1259 .

He was the son of William X, Count of Auvergne , and his second wife Alix (Adelheid) of Brabant , heiress of the County of Boulogne.

After the office of the Count of Boulogne became vacant with the death of Mathilde von Dammartin († 1259), wife of Philipp Hurepel and daughter of Rainald I of Boulogne, he registered a claim to inheritance. He relied on the relationship to Matthew of Alsace , Count of Boulogne, (* 1137 ; † 1172 ), with whom he was through his mother Alix and his grandmother Mathilde (* 1170 ; † 1210 ), Countess of Boulogne and daughter of Matthew , was connected. Robert finally came to this office after lengthy disputes and held it until his death.

Robert married Eleonore de Baffie, daughter of Wilhelm I de Baffie , around 1250 and had six children with her. Two of his sons, Wilhelm and Robert , succeeded him in the office of Count of Boulogne, and another son, Guy, was Bishop of Tournai from 1301 to 1324 .
