Robert Walter McElroy (born February 5, 1954 in San Francisco ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of San Diego .

Life

Robert Walter McElroy was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Francisco on April 12, 1980 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 6, 2010 auxiliary bishop in San Francisco and titular bishop of Gemellae in Byzacena . The Archbishop of San Francisco, George Hugh Niederauer , donated him the episcopal ordination on September 7th of the same year; Co- consecrators were John Raphael Quinn , Old Archbishop of San Francisco, and John Charles Wester , Bishop of Salt Lake City .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of San Diego on March 3, 2015. The inauguration took place on April 15 of the same year.
