coat of arms

Coat of arms of the Bishop Flores

Bishop Flores' coat of arms shows an open Bible with a crook on a blue background . This is to express the priest's role in keeping the church together through the word of God. In the Diocese of Orange in California , where he served as parish priest for 18 years, this was his task, which had grown with his calling as auxiliary bishop in Orange and then as bishop of San Diego. Above the Bible and the crook there is a crown which, together with the blue background, honors the Virgin Mary . In addition, the crown alludes to the name of Flores' hometown Corona . In the lower section are three roses, which again express the devotion to Mary, but are also intended to remind of the martyrs of Mexico. The flowers can also be understood as a pictorial representation of the bishop's family name, since "flores" is the Spanish word for "flowers".

The motto is For the Greater Glory of God ("Everything for the greater glory of God"). This is also the saying of the Jesuit Order who trained Flores at Loyola Marymount University .
