Robert Weber (born April 14, 1838, presumably in Erbach , Württemberg , † November 7, 1917 in Heiden ; legal resident in Erbach, from 1881 in Heiden) was a Swiss printer and publisher from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Robert Weber was a son of Johann Michael Weber, forester , and Amalie Oberbigler. In 1864 he married Berta Graf, daughter of Johann Jakob Graf, a mechanic in Rehetobel . He completed a typesetter apprenticeship in Ulm . From 1863 to 1870 he worked as a printer for the Zollikofer publishing house in St. Gallen . From 1870 to 1872 he held a leading position at the printer Johannes Schläpfer in Trogen . In 1873 he founded a printing company in Heiden, which existed until 1996. From 1873 to 1895 he was printer of the Appenzeller Sunday newspaper, which is mainly known outside of Ausserrhoden . From 1872 he was the publisher of the New Appenzeller Calendar, founded in 1866, and of the Appenzeller Anzeiger from 1874 . The latter became a respected regional newspaper under his leadership and was also edited by Weber from 1894 to 1916. He presided over the Heiden spa society.
