Rodolfo Pedro Wirz Kraemer

Rodolfo Pedro Wirz Kraemer (born April 19, 1942 in Schwarzrheindorf near Bonn , Germany ) is a German-Uruguayan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Maldonado-Punta del Este .

Life

Rodolfo Pedro Wirz Kraemer, whose father died in World War II , moved with his mother to Uruguay at the age of seven, where her brother was a priest . After attending grammar school, he studied theology in Uruguay and completed two guest semesters at the University of Bonn . On December 21, 1968, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Montevideo .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Maldonado-Punta del Este on November 9, 1985 . The Archbishop of Montevideo, José Gottardi Cristelli SDB , ordained him episcopal on December 21 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the old archbishop of Montevideo, Carlos Parteli Keller , and the bishop of Minas , Víctor Gil Lechoza . His episcopal coat of arms refers to the coat of arms of his hometown Beuel .

From July 2009 to October 2010 he was also Apostolic Administrator of the vacant Diocese of Minas.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 15, 2018.
