The Roman Catholic Diocese of Maldonado-Punta del Este -Minas ( Latin Dioecesis Maldonadensis-orientalis Orae-Fodinensis , Spanish diócesis de Maldonado-Punta del Este-Minas ) is an in Uruguay situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Maldonado . It is canonically and organizationally assigned to the Archdiocese of Montevideo as a suffragan .
history
Emerging from the Diocese of Minas , the Diocese of Maldonado-Punta del Este was established on January 10, 1966. About 155,000 Roman Catholic Christians live in the fifteen parishes . They are cared for pastorally by ten diocesan priests , nine religious priests , eleven deacons in the permanent diaconate with the help of 25 nuns and 13 friars .
On March 2, 2020, Pope Francis ordered the unification of the diocese with the Diocese of Minas and the renaming to the Diocese of Maldonado-Punta del Este-Minas. The previous bishop of Maldonado-Punta del Este, Milton Luis Tróccoli Cebedio , was appointed bishop of the united diocese.
