Roland Boley (born March 13, 1958 ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

Boley began playing football at the age of 15 at SSV Reutlingen , with whom he played in the opening season 1978/79 in the newly introduced Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . Although the club was relegated to the fourth-class association league Württemberg at the end of the season , it had drawn attention to itself in a higher class and was invited to trial training at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Fortuna Cologne . A change to the Bundesliga was shattered by Reutlinger's transfer request and the transfer of Armin Veh from FC Augsburg to the Lower Rhine, which was initiated by the joint players' agent Helmut Haller , so that in the summer of 1979 he followed the call of the Württemberg rival SSV Ulm 1846 .

With the second division promoted from Ulm, Boley occupied 16th place in the table in his first second division season, followed by a fifth place in the 1980/81 season . Only on the last match day did the club miss fourth place in the table, which would have meant relegation given the introduction of the single-track 2nd Bundesliga and the results of the last five seasons taken into account. Thus, after two seasons, he was only three points behind the relegation place to the Bundesliga occupied by Kickers Offenbach back into the third division. Under Werner Kern , he won the league championship alongside Walter Kubanczyk , Walter Modick , Günter Berti , Michael Nushöhr and the former European Cup winner Willi Hoffmann , in the subsequent promotion round the team missed direct promotion in a close race with FC Augsburg: In a long-distance duel, the two teams were tied on the last match day of the promotion round ten minutes before the end of the game with equal points and goals, before Klaus Perrey with his goal to make the 3-0 final in the game against FSV Frankfurt, who were already promoted, the Fuggerstädter in the second division shot, because the Spatzen did not get beyond a 1-1 draw against FC Homburg (both 3: 3 points at FCA with 4: 3 and SSV Ulm with 3: 3 goals).

After a mediocre start to the 1982/83 season , Kern was replaced by Paul Sauter , under whose leadership the team prevailed in a duel with Offenburg FV in the championship race and after one against 1. FC Saarbrücken , VfR Bürstadt and SpVgg Unterhaching without defeat designed promotion round rose again in the second division. After a 13th place in the table in the first season after the recovery, the season 1984/85 was desolate for the club. In a season overshadowed by injuries, some of which affected Boley, who only made 22 appearances in the end, the team only won five season games and was relegated to the bottom. While the team around Thomas Richter , Uwe Spies , Marcus Sorg , Peter Assion and ex-national player Bernd Martin, now being looked after by player- coach Werner Nickel , managed to get promoted straight back to the top, he stayed in the league without playing any further and ended his active career in the summer of 1986.

After the end of his career, Boley first worked as an insurance agent, later he worked as a recycling entrepreneur and in the catering sector.
