Roland Dupont

Roland E. Dupont (also DuPont , born August 14, 1909 in Brockton , Massachusetts , † September 7, 2004 in Chappaqua , New York ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( trombone ).

Dupont studied at Thayer Academy and the New England Conservatory . In New York, he played at the Rainbow Room nightclub with Rubie Newman before joining the Ray Noble Orchestra. In the 1930s to 1950s he worked in well-known big bands and studio orchestras such as Glenn Miller , Richard Himber , Erskine Butterfield , Percy Faith and Hugo Winterhalter , as well as an accompanist for The Andrews Sisters , Johnny Hartman , Sarah Vaughan , Billy Eckstine , Eartha Kitt , Frank Sinatra or Eddie Cantor . In later years he worked on radio and television shows such as the Kate Smith Show with the Ray Bloch Band, the Lucky Strike Hit Parade with Raymond Scott's orchestra, and Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar . Dupont has also appeared on the TV shows of Milton Berle , Ed Sullivan and Jackie Gleason , as well as with Nat King Cole and as a studio musician on NBC and CBS. In 1961 he appeared on the show Chicago and All That Jazz! with Yank Lawson , Paul Ricci , Johnny Guarnieri , Cliff Leeman and the singer Blossom Seeley in a revival of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band . In the field of jazz he was involved in 15 recording sessions between 1937 and 1961. Dupont lived in Chappaqua from 1947, where he died in 2004 at the age of 95.
