Roland Keijser

Roland Keijser (born August 9, 1944 in Mockfjärd ; † January 25, 2019 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish fusion and jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , clarinet, flute).

Live and act

Keijser grew up in Grängesberg in central Sweden and started working with his own jazz quartet in the 1960s. In September 1968 he took part in a recording of the radio jazz groups around Jan Johansson and Arne Domnérus ( Vårdkasar ). From the 1970s he played increasingly with musicians from the prog rock scene; albums were created with the bands Arbete & Fritid (with Bengt Berger ) and Blå Tåget. From 1975 he worked with the folk musician Anders Rosén , with whom he played Swedish folk music on the soprano saxophone. In Denmark he was part of the Sound of Flowers formation with Fredrik Norén , Rune Carlsson , Bobo Stenson and Bronisław Suchanek . In his music in the following period he mixed jazz with folk , both of Swedish and non-European origins. From the 1990s he played frequently with musicians from North Africa, Turkey and other countries. With the saxophonist Lars Gulliksson he formed the Kalousch formation .

In 1994 Keijser received the Jan Johansson grant. In 2017 he was awarded the Lars Gullin Prize .
