Lars Gulliksson

Lars Gulliksson (* 1967 in Övertorneå ) is a Swedish Jazz - Tenor saxophonist , flutist , clarinetist , arranger and composer . Gullikson leads the Swedish Mingus Band ( Sigmund Freud's Mothers ).

Lars Gulliksson started playing the saxophone at the age of 15 and, after attending music schools and the music college in Sweden, moved to New York City , where he studied with George Coleman , Ellery Eskelin , Richie Beirach , George Garzone and his studies at Manne's College of Music . After his return to Sweden he studied music academy in Malmö , initially worked as a freelance musician and recorded his first albums under his own name. The project with which he also achieved international attention was the Swedish Mingus Band or Sigmund Freud's Mothers , led by Gulliksson . The title of the band refers less to Sigmund Freud than to the Charles Mingus composition "All The Things You Could Be By Now If Sigmund Freud's Wife Was Your Mother". The band interprets - similar to projects like the Mingus Dynasty and the Mingus Big Band - the classic compositions of the bassist and band leader such as Orange Was the Color of Her Dress Then Blue Silk .

Since 1998 Gulliksson has lived and worked as a musician, arranger and composer in Stockholm; In addition to his work as a musician, he works for various film and television projects. He also worked with Moroccan musicians in Marrakech . With the saxophonist Roland Keijser he formed the formation Kalousch . Lars Gulliksson founded his own record label BReathING maCHIne .
