Rolf Burchard

Rolf Burchard (born March 16, 1914 in Zurich ; † July 28, 1983 in Hof ) was a German high school teacher and painter.

Life

After graduating from high school in Halle , he studied art and German at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin , the University of Leipzig , the Friedrichs-Universität Halle and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . In 1939 he passed the state examination for higher artistic teaching post. On September 16, 1939, he married Ottilie Irene Tiedemann in Schwanensee (Norwischeiten), Elchniederung district . There are five children from the marriage.

For the Wehrmacht confiscated, he fought five years in World War II. With his wife he was able to flee from East Prussia . He came to Bavaria and was an art teacher from 1946. As a student trainee in 1947, he was one of the founders of the Hof group in the YMCA Bavarian Association . In 1952 he came to the Schiller Gymnasium in Hof . After his wife died on December 27, 1976 in Hof, he married a second marriage on June 18, 1977 in Hof.

After completing his teaching activities, he was a freelance member of the Esslingen Artists' Guild . He was involved in the professional association of visual artists (Upper and Lower Franconia, Northern Franconia Group ). The public contracts included the design of schools and churches as well as the memorial of the division of Germany in Hof. He had solo exhibitions in Hof, Naila, Münchberg, Erlangen, Rotenburg (Wümme), Kempten, Munich and Cologne. He was involved in numerous group exhibitions. For many years he was district and district chairman of the Landsmannschaft Ost- und Westpreußen in Bayern e. V. Motifs from his adopted home East Prussia and the eastern territories of the German Empire occupy a large space in his artistic work . His pictures are therefore particularly popular with those who have been displaced from their homes.
