Rolf KW Miehlke (born June 4, 1945 in Pretzier , Salzwedel district ) is a German orthopedist and specialist in the surgical treatment of rheumatic diseases .

Life

As the son of the doctor Klaus Miehlke and his wife Hildburg, b. Kasch, Rolf Miehlke was born on June 4th 1945 in Pretzier , district of Salzwedel , on the run from Berlin .

After school and high school in Nuremberg and Wiesbaden , Miehlke studied biochemistry and medicine at the universities of Mainz , Hamburg and Düsseldorf from 1964 to 1970 . In 1970 he received his doctorate from Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf on the influence of knee synovectomy on the course of primary chronic polyarthritis ( rheumatoid arthritis ).

After general surgery, Miehlke moved to the Westphalian Wilhelms University in 1972 , where he received his specialist training as an orthopedic surgeon under Hans-Henning Matthiaß and was appointed senior physician. In the field of orthopedics, he focused on rheumatism surgery , arthroscopic surgery , biomechanics and knee endoprosthetics .

He also cooperated from 1975 to 1981 with the Technical University of Twente in Enschede , the Netherlands, and the Jülich nuclear research facility. Between 1977 and 2010 Miehlke was involved in the German Rheumatism League for the concerns of rheumatism sufferers, from 1983 as a board member in the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia , and he was an advisory board member of the federal association.

In 1981 Miehlke completed his habilitation at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster on the biomechanical behavior of knee endoprostheses and material wear problems. In 1982 Miehlke was appointed chief physician of the newly founded clinic for rheumatoid orthopedics at the Northwest German Rheumatism Center in St. Josef Stift Sendenhorst. In 1987 he was appointed adjunct professor for orthopedics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster. Miehlke headed his department until 2008. After that, he entered into cooperation with a joint practice in Münster and with the Rhein-Main joint center in Wiesbaden until 2015 in the field of knee arthroplasty .

Miehlke influenced the surgical treatment of rheumatic diseases, arthroscopic procedures and the endoprosthetic treatment of the knee joint as well as the computer-controlled implantation of artificial knee joints in Germany and through his international presence . This is documented in over 150 publications and book contributions.

Miehlke has received several awards in the German media as an orthopedist and knee specialist.

Miehlke is the father of two daughters in Los Angeles and Cologne. His second marriage is to the former building contractor Jane-Claudia Knopps.
