Rolf Theile (born October 1, 1923 ) is a former German soccer player. With Union Halle he became Eastern Zone Champion in 1949 and briefly played the first season of the East German Zone League for Halle in 1949/50 . From 1949 to 1954 he was active for Motor Dessau in the top soccer class of the GDR , which was later renamed the DS-Oberliga .

Athletic career

Theile began his football career in post-war Germany in Belgern and was part of the SG Freiimfelde / Union Halle squad in the 1948/49 football season . As champion of the state class Saxony-Anhalt , Halle qualified for the 2nd Eastern Zone Championship in 1949 . Theile took part in both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals and scored one goal each in the victories over SG Dresden-Friedrichstadt (2: 1) and Eintracht Stendal (3: 0). In the final, Halle met Fortuna Erfurt and won 4-1. Theile as a right winger scored the 2-0 intermediate result. At the same time, Halle had also qualified for the zone league (later DS-Oberliga, GDR-Oberliga , which took place in the 1949/50 season and led to the determination of the first GDR soccer champions. In this season he only made eleven league games and one championship goal. He then joined Werder Bremen and was there in 19 league games (1 goal). He returned to Dessau in the summer of 1952, but had to serve an eight-week suspension there. On the 9th game day he could be used again and played a total of 22 of the 32 league games of the 1952/53 league season. He was called up alternately in the attack and in the defense and only got three goals. In the 1953/54 season, Theile played as a left defender for a long time before he was reinstated as a right attacker. At the end of the season he was only a substitute. However, he played 26 of the 28 league point games and again scored three championship goals. When the season was over, Motor Dessau had been relegated to the second-rate GDR league .

In the summer of 1954 Theile moved to BSG Motor Mitte Magdeburg, which also played in the GDR league . The Magdeburg had set itself the goal of moving up to the league. They only succeeded in doing this in 1959 as SC Aufbau Magdeburg , at which time Theile had already ended his sporting career. From 1954 to 1958 Theile played 80 games in the GDR league, but only scored one goal.
