Roliça is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Bombarral . It has 2808 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
History and sights
The municipality has been populated since the Neanderthals . There was a Bronze Age settlement of the Castro culture here , which was later occupied by the Romans , as evidenced by coins and other finds. The independent municipality was created in 1495 , making it the oldest municipality in the district. Today's parish church was first built in 1408 as a simple chapel.
In connection with the Napoleonic invasions , the French forces of General Delaborde met the Portuguese-British defense under the later General Wellington , who had gone ashore in Lavos a few days earlier , here on August 17, 1808 . In the battle called Batalha da Roliça , the French invading armies were defeated. A memorial stone for the fallen Lieutenant Lake and his men commemorates the battle.
The community's other monuments include various sacred buildings , fountains, historical public and private buildings, and the São Mamede train station.

With the São Mamede train station and the Paúl stop, the municipality has two connections to the Linha do Oeste railway line .
The municipality is connected to the A8 motorway with junction no. 12 (Delgada) and no. 13 (São Mamede) .
