Location and description

Rome is a small place near Lichtenberg . It has 8 permanent residents. In addition, there are around half a dozen inhabited weekend houses. At first the place consisted only of a pig breeding business of the so-called "pig pope". Later, a large restaurant for day trips and a few weekend houses were built in the 1960s.

Neighboring districts are Springe in the north, Wendershagen in the northeast, Ortsiefen in the south and Lichtenberg in the west.

Above Rome there is a ski lift operated by the innkeeper of the excursion restaurant.

Waters

The Römerbach, from which the name of the place is derived, runs past Rome. The Römer Weiher serves many residents as a bathing opportunity and, in the past, was used for swimming training in the surrounding villages.

history

In 1429 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document, namely "Johan von Ditzenhausen buys a part of Rome ".
