Roman Roček

Roman Roček (born January 31, 1935 in Vienna ; † January 2, 2013 there ) was an Austrian journalist and author .

Life

Roček graduated from high school in 1954, worked in the civil service and also completed a degree in psychology at the University of Vienna , which he obtained in 1964 with a doctorate. phil. completed.

In 1964 he became head of the pedagogical office of the Association of Viennese People's Education. In 1967 he became head of the science and public education department (school radio) in the ORF radio and was there from 1975 to 1995 head of the main cultural word department .

Roček was the biographer and editor of the complete lyric works of Alexander Lernet-Holenia and wrote opera libretti and a biography of Nikolaus Lenau .

He acted as treasurer and vice-president of the Austrian PEN Club . He lived for a long time in Brunn am Gebirge in Lower Austria and later in Vienna and was the administrator of the estate of the composer Richard Maux for decades, which he published in 2011 in the monograph "Tonal gegen die Zeitgeist. The life and work of the sound poet Richard Maux in documents" for Opponents of National Socialism transfigured, although two weeks after the annexation of Austria, Maux wrote the "Ostmark hymn", "Let the flags flutter", especially " Dedicated to Adolf Hitler ", which Maux's wife Else Reitermayer wrote without compulsion and which Maux set to music without any need. and the full proceeds of the first edition of the work were made available by the publisher "in the loyal German spirit of the NSDAP Purkersdorf ".
