Romas Magelinskas (* 10. April 1968 in Panevezys ) is from Lithuania originating Handball coach .
Career
player
The 1.90 meter tall player started playing handball in his home country, where he played for Granitas Kaunas and Vytis Kaunas. In 1992 he was brought to Austria by the UHC Salzburg . In 1998/99 he played for PTA Vienna Margareten and was able to celebrate the Cup victory with the Margaretners. In 2000/01 he moved to Lower Austria for one season at UHC Perchtoldsdorf . The seasons 2001/02 , 2002/03 and 2003/04 he ran for the handball club Fivers Margareten . In the 2001/02 season Magelinskas was able to gain his only experience in international club competitions, in the EHF Challenge Cup .
Trainer
From 2004/05 to 2008/09 he was only available to the Margaretners as a trainer. With the capital city he was four times runner-up and one cup winner , and during this time he was twice voted "Coach of the Year" by the Handball League Austria . After Peter Eckl took over his job at Fivers in 2010 , he worked as an assistant coach in the national team and occupied a position as a trainer at the Bad Vöslau handball academy. In 2011 he joined the SG Handball West Vienna again as a coach in the Handball League Austria after Gerald Grabner could not bring the desired performance. In 2013 he made the leap into the HLA's upper play-off for the first time in eight years with the Viennese, but his contract was not extended. After a half-season break he was brought in by Union Leoben in January 2014 after they terminated Volker Hage's contract. Extended early 2015 Magelinskas his involvement in the Styrian by two years until 2017. After the right- 2015/16 with the Styrian into the top play-off for the Handball League Austria moved in, he lost in the following season, the relegation duel in the lower play-off , against HC Bruck. After this mixed season, his contract in Leoben was not extended.
In February 2020, Magelinskas took over the coaching position at HSG Graz from Damir Djukic after the team had lost the first three games of the qualifying round in the Spusu Liga 2019/20 season .
Private
His daughter Laura is a handball player and was most recently active for the French club Handball Plan de Cuques.
