Ron van den Hout , whose full name is Cornelis Franciscus Martinus van den Hout (born November 11, 1964 in Tilburg , Netherlands ), is Bishop of Groningen-Leeuwarden .

Life

Ron van den Hout was born the son of a car mechanic and grew up in Diessen . He studied agriculture and horticulture at the HAS Hogeschool in 's-Hertogenbosch and, after completing this degree, theology. He received on 5 June 1993, the sacrament of Holy Orders . At the end of 2011, the Bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch , Antonius Hurkmans , appointed him his second vicar general next to the auxiliary bishop Robert Mutsaerts . He initially retained this office under Hurkmans' successor, Bishop Gerard de Korte , who was introduced in 2016 and who had previously been Bishop of Groningen-Leeuwarden and had left this diocese vacant.

On April 1, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Groningen-Leeuwarden. Cardinal Willem Jacobus Eijk consecrated him bishop on June 3, 2017. Co-consecrators were Gerard de Korte and Robert Mutsaerts.

Motto

As a motto , Bishop Cornelis van den Hout chose a motto that is based on the Dutch version of a prayer text from the third prayer : In exilio spes (“In exile is hope”).
