Ronald Redmer (born November 21, 1958 in Schwerin ) is a German physicist and university professor in the field of statistical physics .

Life

After Ronald Redmer graduated from high school in Schwerin in 1977, he began studying physics at what was then the TH Karl-Marx-Stadt , but in 1978 he switched to the University of Rostock , where he completed his physics studies in 1982 with a diploma. Then he was a research student at the Physics Section in Rostock until 1985. After a three-month research stay at the United Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna , he was a research assistant in Rostock from 1985 to 1992. He received his doctorate in 1986 with a theoretical work in the field of plasma physics to Dr. rer . In 1991 the habilitation to the Dr. rer. nat. Habil with a thesis on the thermodynamics and transport properties of dense alkali plasmas, Redmer also researched and taught from 1991 to 1993 at the University of Marburg and Oregon State University .

Redmer has been a professor at the University of Rostock since 1993 . From 1993 to 2003 initially with a C3 professorship for the physics of dense plasmas and since 2003 with a C4 professorship for statistical physics. In this role he heads the statistical physics group at the Institute for Physics at the University of Rostock. The research focuses on ab initio simulations, density functional theory and matter under extreme conditions, for example in astro and plasma physics.

Ronald Redmer is a member of the German Physical Society , the American Physical Society and the Society of Scientists and Doctors in Rostock. From 2006 to 2008 he was Vice-Rector of the University of Rostock.

In 2007 he was supported by the Russian Academy of Sciences of the honorary doctorates awarded.
