Ronnie Bedford

Ronald "Ronnie" H. Bedford (* 2. June 1931 in Bridgeport , Connecticut ; † 20th December 2014 in Powell , Wyoming ) was an American jazz - drummer .

Bedford came from a musical family; at the age of ten he started playing the drums. His early role model was Gene Krupa . In 1949 he toured with Louis Prima , then did military service in the US Army , where he played in a military band. He then toured with the Benny Goodman quintet , with whom he a. a. in New York's Central Park and London's Royal Albert Hall . He has also worked with Benny Carter and for various Broadway shows. For twenty years he was a member of the pianist Morris Nanton's trio . In 1980 he moved with his second wife to Wyoming, where he taught at colleges and universities in the region, from 1986 at Northwest College in Powell. He was also a co-founder of the Yellowstone Jazz Festival . He received the Governor's Award for the Arts for his activities to promote jazz music in Wyoming . In the field of jazz he was involved in 71 recording sessions between 1955 and 1999, including a. also with Sam Donahue , Don Elliott , Pee Wee Russell , Rod Levitt , Bobby Hackett , Johnny Richards , Chuck Wayne , Lee Konitz , Bernie Leighton , Hank Jones , Carmen Leggio , Buddy DeFranco , Jimmy Maxwell , Don Friedman , Warren Chiasson , Morgana King , Chris Connor , Dick Meldonian , Walter Norris , Harold Ashby , Susannah McCorkle , Arnett Cobb and George Masso .
