It occurs only in the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland .

description

Flowers of a variegated variety from different angles.
Capsule fruits

Appearance and leaf

The pink pandorea grows as a liana or as a climbing shrub . The mainly opposite, sometimes whorlily arranged leaves are imparipinnate and about 12 to 17 centimeters long with a 2 to 4 centimeter long petiole. They consist of four to seven leaflets that are 4.5 to 6 inches long and 1.5 to 3 inches wide. The leaflets have a smooth edge and sit on a 2 to 4 millimeter long stalk; the base of the leaflets is asymmetrical. Stipules are missing.

Inflorescence and flower

The inflorescences are thyrsenic and sometimes seem to be racemose ; they are 6 to 12 inches long. The hermaphroditic, five-fold flowers are more or less zygomorphic . The five green sepals are fused into a 5 to 7 millimeter long calyx. The five petals are fused trumpet-shaped and 4 to 6 inches long; their color can be white or pink with a red throat. The crown is hairy on the inside and very short on the outside. The trumpet-shaped crown is more or less upright and has a diameter of 10 to 20 millimeters. The corolla lobes are 2 to 3 inches long. The four stamens stand together in pairs. The ovary is on top. There is a discus.

Fruits and seeds

A capsule fruit is formed that is 4 to 6 centimeters long and about 1 to 2 centimeters in diameter. The flat seeds are almost completely surrounded by a membranous wing and have a diameter of 10 to 15 millimeters.

Occurrence

Pandorea jasminoides is native to north-eastern New South Wales and Queensland in Australia . It grows there in the subtropical coastal forest or dry forest.

use

Because of their many showy, trumpet-shaped flowers and their long flowering period, varieties of this species are used as ornamental plants . It is a not hardy, evergreen climber . It is also suitable for winter gardens.

Taxonomy

It was first described in 1837 by the English botanist John Lindley under the name ( Basionym ) Tecoma jasminoides in Edwards's Botanical Register , 23 (new ser., 10), table 2002. In 1894, the German botanist Karl Moritz Schumann made the new combination to Pandorea jasminoides ( Lindl.) K.Schum. in Adolf Engler and Carl Prantl : The natural plant families carried out.
